Description
Orsolya Tompa is a Hungarian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. Tompa edged out her fellow swimmer Emese Kov�cs to claim the 100 m butterfly title by eight hundredths of a second at the 2007 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, with a time of 1:00.22.
Tompa qualified for women's 100 m freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by clearing a FINA B-standard entry time of 56.81 from the European Junior Championships in Antwerp. She challenged seven other swimmers on the second heat, including 15-year-old Quah Ting Wen of Singapore and two-time Olympian Irina Shlemova of Uzbekistan. She finished behind Thailand's Natthanan Junkrajang in third place by a hundredth of a second, posting her personal best of 56.57 seconds. Tompa failed to advance into the semifinals, as she placed fortieth overall in the preliminary heats.
Tompa sought to qualify for the women's 4�100 m medley relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, as a member of Hungarian team, but did not compete in the preliminary heats. [More at Wikipedia]
