Description
Donna Mercado Kim is a Democratic politician and current 13th President of the Hawaii Senate. As President, she earns $53,773 annually. She was involved in a minor controversy when she was accused of pressuring the President of the University of Hawaii to accept her son's application to the William S. Richardson School of Law.
Elected to the Senate in 2000, she has chaired the Committee on Tourism, the Committee on Ways and Means, the Special Committee on Accountability, and the Task Force on Reinventing Government. From 2003-2008 and 2011-2013, Kim was the Vice President of the Senate. From 1984-2000, Kim served on the Honolulu City Council. From 1982-1984, Kim was a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives. She is a graduate of Washington State University, although she also attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is a Filipino American.
