Description
Nadja Benaissa is a German recording artist, television personality, and occasional actress. She rose to fame in late 2000 when she auditioned for the reality television show Popstars on RTL II. The programme announced that Banaissa had won a place as a member of the all-female pop band No Angels. The group has achieved massive success and went on to become the "biggest-selling German girlband to date".
After a series of commercially successful releases with the group, Benaissa released her solo debut album Schritt fr Schritt in 2006. The semi-autobiographical album was recorded entirely in German, taking Benaissa's work further into soul, R&B and jazz music, but enjoyed moderate commercial success.
In February 2010, she was charged with causing bodily harm by German police for having unprotected sex with three men between 2004 and 2006, without informing them she was HIV-positive. In August of that same year, she was found guilty of hiding her HIV status from sexual partners and was given a two-year suspended sentence and 300 hours of community service. In September 2010, Nadja Benaissa officially left the band to due to private reasons, leaving the No Angels as a trio.
