Description
Robert Joseph "Bob" Miller is an American attorney and politician. He was the 26th Governor of the U.S. state of Nevada from 1989 to 1999. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
The son of a Chicago bookie cite Son of a Gambling Man Thomas Dunne books, Bob Miller's family moved from Chicago, Illinois to Las Vegas, Nevada, and he graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in 1963 with honors. He graduated from the Santa Clara University in 1967, earning a degree in Political Science. Miller received his J.D. degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California.
From 1967 to 1973, Miller served in the U.S. Army Reserve and later in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. At the same time he served as Clark County Deputy District Attorney, from 1971 to 1973. In 1979 Miller was elected to office of Clark County District Attorney, and was re-elected in 1982, becoming the first Clark County District Attorney to win re-election. He served at this post until 1986. He was the President of the National District Attorney's Association in 1984.
He became the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Nevada for a four-year term on January 5, 1987.
