Arthur Latham Conger Jr was a theosophist and president of the Theosophical Society Pasadena. He studied at Harvard University and graduated in 1892. After 1894 he studied Theology at Cambridge, Massachusetts. He planned to become a priest in the Episcopal Church. However, a bishop learned of his theosophical interests, and gave him an ultimatum: "Church or Theosophy". Conger opted for Theosophy and went to New York City to work actively in the Theosophical Society. In 1894 Conger became a member of the Esoteric Section of the TS. In 1898, he joined the Army for financial reasons and saw combat in the Spanish?American War, the Philippine War, and the Boxer Rebellion. He later became the U.S. military attach� in Germany and Switzerland. He received many military awards. In 1902 he married Margaret Loring Guild. She died in 1945. In 1932 he became president of the TS.
