Description
Stephen Marchionda is a classical guitarist who has emerged on the international concert scene in highly acclaimed performances throughout the world. Recent solo highlights include Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, the Frick Collection and the Harvard Music Association; London?s Wigmore Hall and Linbury Theatre, the Aspen, Cheltenham and Les Junies Festivals, and throughout the rest of Europe and Japan.
Marchionda's recent recording on Chandos Records Songs for Tenor and Guitar with British tenor Philip Langridge, was Critics Choice for Gramphone magazine and BBC Music Magazine Editors Choice.
He has premiered many new works, including those written for him by several internationally renowned composers. Such as Nicholas Maw's Music of Memory and Tango from Sophie?s Choice. Sir Harrison Birtwistle?s Today Too was premiered with tenor Philip Langridge and flutist Sebastian Bell, a work that was written for the trio.
Marchionda is a graduate of Yale University's School of Music, the Cleveland Institute of Music and was affiliated with the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1991, where he received classes with the celebrated guitarist Julian Bream.
