Description
John William Johnstone, is a professional baseball player who played pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1993 to 2000. He played for the Florida Marlins, Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, and San Francisco Giants.
Johnstone was drafted by the New York Mets in the 1987 amateur baseball draft. His best minor league season was 1990, when he compiled a 15-6 win-loss record with an earned-run average of 2.24 for the St. Lucie Mets in the Florida State League. He was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 1993 expansion draft.
Johnstone's two best seasons in the major leagues were 1998 and 1999 with the Giants. During those two season he appeared in 132 games, all in relief. His combined record was 10-11 with a 2.83 earned-run average. He retired from professional baseball following the 2000 season with a back injury.
In 2012, Johnstone was inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame. [More at Wikipedia]
