Description
Patrick "Putter" Smith is an American jazz bassist, recording artist, music teacher, author, and actor.
Smith is perhaps best known for his movie role as assassin, Mr. Kidd, played alongside Mr. Wint, in the 1971 James Bond movie, Diamonds Are Forever, starring Sean Connery as 007.
A professional jazz bassist, Smith has appeared on numerous releases throughout his career including the 1975 Pat Britt album entitled Jazzman and the 1987 Alan Broadbent Trio album entitled Another Time.
For a time in 1973, he travelled with American rock stars the Beach Boys, who also had Blondie Chaplin, Ricky Fataar, Charles Lloyd, and Mark Isham.
Smith has also authored various jazz-related instructional books including 2000's Improvising Handbook for Double Bass and Bass Clef Instruments and 2011's Jazz Bass Improvisation: A Guide to Chords, Scales, Arpeggios & Other Concepts and Techniques for the Advancing Bassist.
