Jos� Carlos de Almeida, best known as Z� Carlos is an association footballer. Started career in 1990, and played for S�o Jos�, Nacional, S�o Caetano, Portuguesa, Uni�o S�o Jo�o, S�o Paulo, Juventude, Matonense, Ponte Preta, Gr�mio and Joinville. He last played for Portuguesa in 2005 until May. Z� Carlos had never played for the Brazilian national team, but still managed to get selected for the roster of the 1998 FIFA World Cup due to injuries to other players. He did not play at all until the semifinal match where he was selected to start against the Netherlands. He did not play in the final and was never called up again, so his appearance in the semifinals of a World Cup ended up being his first and only international cap.
